Our student Rishona Daniels presented her graduate MSc seminar yesterday on “Reservoir Computing with Memristive Neural Networks״.

She explained the principles of reservoir computing with volatile memristors, explored how preprocessing methods and memristor parameters affect performance, and discussed the various trade-offs involved in designing such systems.

Great job, Rishona!
Congratulations!

New paper is published!

Rishona Daniels' paper "On the Role of Preprocessing and Memristor Dynamics in Reservoir Computing for Image Classification" is now published in Advanced Electronic Materials.

This paper explores reservoir computing based on volatile memristors and is the outcome of three hard work years of Rishona's MSc, with collaboration with Ronny Ronen, Duna Wattad, and Prof. David Saad.

It is online right on time, a day before Rishona's graduate seminar!

Our latest paper, published in the IEEE Open Journal of Circuits and Systems (OJCAS).

In this work, led by Thomas Neuner, we dive into the practical challenges of implementing in-memory logic. While resistive RAM (RRAM) is a top candidate for moving beyond the von Neumann bottleneck, real-world hardware comes with non-ideal characteristics—specifically nonlinear I-V behavior.

When we use logic techniques like Complementary Resistive Switch (CRS) and Memristor Ratioed Logic (MRL), the output is defined under high input voltages. We experimentally demonstrated that at these voltages, the resistance ratio of HfO2 memristors degrades significantly, which can impair the reliability and the ability to "cascade" gates in a larger system.

To bridge the gap between theoretical models and robust hardware, we introduced and experimentally validated two strategies:
For CRS: A two-phase read scheme that makes current spikes much easier to detect.
For MRL: A pre-initialization strategy that sets devices to a high-resistance state, improving output voltage levels and reliability.

These methods move us a step closer to making robust, energy-efficient in-memory logic a reality.

Our research group enjoyed a truly memorable team day filled with discovery, creativity, and meaningful dialogue. We challenged our problem-solving skills in an escape room, shared a wonderful lunch together, and explored the city through a guided street-art tour by our group members that highlighted the power of visual storytelling.

Beyond the fun, we also took time for deeper conversations—reflecting on complex and sensitive topics, including the events of 7.10 in Israel. These discussions reminded us of the importance of empathy, critical thinking, and open dialogue within our academic and professional community.

Grateful for a day that strengthened both our teamwork and our shared purpose.
Looking forward to many more moments of learning, collaboration, and connection.

We participated at the ACRC Research Day
and our students presented their research in the poster session.

It was a great chance to meet and talk to other students, faculty, and industry leaders, and explore the future of hardware engineering and research.
The ACRC Research Day featured also a fascinating panel discussion with the participation of Prof. Shahar Kvatinsky, focused on the topic: "The Last Junior? Preparing Humans and AI to Co-Engineer Hardware Systems".
