According to different approaches towards E-vehicles in Northern Ireland 2021/2022, the 3 biggest deterrents for citizens purchasing an EV are: initial purchase price (70%), recharging (44%), and worrying about available public charge points and their locations (43%).

Despite these, respondents to the survey were 12% more likely to purchase an EV last year than the two years prior.

Addressing the deterrents above, to alleviate charge point experiences, the UK Government announced earlier this year that Northern Ireland would receive millions in funding to enhance the public charging network.

A new landmark law in Europe: Carmakers must achieve a 100% cut in CO2 emissions from new cars and vans sold by 2035. Final approval of the law should take place in March.

Many carmakers in Europe are investing or plan to invest solely in including Volkswagen from 2033, Jaguar (from 2025), Fiat (2027), Opel (2028), Ford (2030), Peugeot (2030), Renault (2030), Volvo Cars (2030), Mercedes-Benz (2031), Audi (2033), Bentley (2030), and Rolls-Royce (end of 2030).

This crucial move must come with an adequate public charging infrastructure that will be able to support this major transition.

A new study by the Great Plains Institute reports that goals for a national charging network will require 1,104 EV fast-charging stations along major corridors. But wait…

The study also points out that four 150kW chargers every 50 miles may not be sufficient for higher-traffic routes.

While additional stations will help to connect adjacent routes, ultra-fast charging stations along the way can keep EV drivers on the road and not waiting in lines to charge.

Green Car Reports has more details: https://eu1.hubs.ly/H030f740

A new study suggests that with 1,104 additional fast-charging locations, major transportation corridors will be covered.
