But very different results.

This is something we see quite often.

Many times, factory lighting is judged only by whether a certain lux level is achieved. And yes, lux is important.

But uniformity is equally important.

If the light is not evenly distributed, some areas feel bright while others feel dull. The eyes keep adjusting. Over time, this causes fatigue and discomfort, even if the lux reading looks fine on the lux meter on a given point.

Lux just tells you the light intensity at a point. Uniformity tells you how the space actually feels. Its experiential!

Where does all the light generated by a light fixture actually go?

In high-ceiling factories (6-8 M and above), a large portion of the light energy is often lost before it ever reaches the workplane!

Here's a graphic our design team made this afternoon that shows a simple comparison:

Scenario 1: Tucana Highfin™ Highbay light with Lens + Reflector Hybrid optics

- A Highbay with both Lens and Reflector has much better beam control and intentionally directs the light downward.
- Much higher lux achieved at the work level, with lesser fixtures and lesser consumed power.
- Excellent uniformity through beam overlap
- Very Low glare
-Minimal light wasted on ceiling & walls

 Scenario 2: A regular Highbay light without reflector (lens-only/plain glass)

- Poor beam control lets the light spread indiscriminately.
- Ceiling and walls glow, consume light energy
- Lower usable lux received on the workplane
- Poor uniformity
-Higher glare as light hits viewer's eyes more often
- Much more fixtures and higher power needed

So it's a no-brainer that Reflectors are great and make lights perform better. But then why are incumbent lighting brands (Market leader included) moving away from them?........Because Reflectors are Expensive and honestly quite difficult to manufacture. (search for Metal spinning videos online!)

Cost optimization that comes at compromised performance does no one good. In a market that's rapidly becoming generic, Tucana's fixation to consistently manufacture only well engineered lighting products, that deliver guaranteed performance works well for us to stand out.
