Artemis II Capsule Re-Entry – A Fiery Return to Earth

On National Science Day 2026, the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bengaluru, conducted its Open Day, providing structured access to active domains of observational astronomy and instrumentation science.

Demonstrations included infrared detection systems for obscured celestial studies, optical telescope structural and alignment models, laser-based beam propagation experiments relevant to precision optical engineering, and a tethered helium balloon setup illustrating buoyancy principles used in high-altitude scientific platforms, alongside exhibits reflecting the Vainu Bappu Observatory’s observational contributions.

The engagement reaffirmed the depth, rigor, and institutional continuity of India’s astrophysical research ecosystem.

On 10 February 2026, BHST Research & Education Pvt Ltd - BHST conducted Industrial Visit 6.0 to the Gauribidanur Radio Observatory, Gauribidanur operated by Indian Institute of Astrophysics

Participants witnessed how large dipole antenna arrays monitor solar radio emissions from coronal disturbances and CMEs — capturing, filtering, and digitising signals for spectral analysis. Inside the digital facility, they observed how raw electromagnetic signals transform into calibrated datasets used in solar, pulsar, and quasar research.

Team BHST extends its heartfelt thanks to the IIA–GRO research team for enabling first-hand exposure to operational radio astronomy.

That’s what BHST Research & Education Pvt Ltd - BHST’s Radio Astronomy 101 online seminar was about—radio telescopes, cosmic signals, and the science behind “listening” to space. A session on how radio waves reveal what visible light can’t. The questions and discussions made it a genuinely high-energy learning space.

What made it memorable was the participation: thoughtful questions, genuine curiosity, and a discussion that stayed engaged till the end.

Beyond the Night: Tracking the Solar Photosphere. ☀️

BHST’s Astronomy doesn't end at sunrise. Our Sunday morning sessions are dedicated to white-light solar observation, focusing on the Sun's photosphere.

Using specialized solar filtration, we track active regions and sunspot dynamics in real-time. It’s a critical transition from deep-space tracking to understanding our own stellar neighborhood—and it's a standard part of the BHST experience.

While one batch concludes their research, the next is already preparing.

A parting gift from the 2025 Geminids. ☄️

The winter sky has a way of rewarding patience. On December 29th, we captured this rare fireball (Slide 3)—a brilliant streak of cosmic debris cutting through the silence of our observation site.

True astronomy is found in the details: the precise glow of a laser alignment against the dark, the silhouette of high-end optics waiting for the light, and the quiet focus of a researcher at the eyepiece. These aren’t just tools; they are our gateway to the deep sky. 🌌

After a year of documenting the extraordinary, we are moving from the lens to the community. Our next observation batch begins in 72 hours.
