SMVIT LIBRARY & SEMINAR BUILDING, BENGALURU
PROJECT TYPE: Institutional / Educational Infrastructure
LOCATION: Bengaluru, Karnataka
STATUS: Concept
Our vision for the SMVIT Library & Seminar Building is a departure from the static, block-heavy design of traditional Indian campuses. We’ve engineered a Kinetic Curve—a sweeping, monolithic glass and stone facade that acts as a visual conductor for the site’s pedestrian flow. The architecture is a study in transparency and mass, utilizing a dramatic concave curtain wall to "invite" the campus inward, transforming a high-density academic building into an expansive, light-filled sanctuary for research.
THE "HOW WE WOULD BUILD" BLUEPRINT:
THE CURTAIN WALL BIOME: We utilize a high-performance, double-glazed curved facade to maximize natural daylighting while mitigating Bengaluru’s solar gain. This ensures a 100% glare-free environment, which is critical for deep-work library zones.
STEPPED PEDESTRIAN AMPHITHEATRE: The entry sequence is engineered as a social catalyst. We’ve integrated a wide, stone-stepped amphitheatre that doubles as informal seminar seating, blurring the line between structured learning and campus life.
CANTILEVERED VOLUMES: The upper floor plates feature aggressive cantilevers that provide natural self-shading to the ground-level plazas, reducing the building's overall thermal footprint while creating a sense of "Weightless Authority."
MATERIAL DIALOGUE: A juxtaposition of textured stone cladding (representing the institutional foundation) and expansive glass (representing the transparency of information).
