Hon’ble Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh inaugurated the first-of-its-kind solar project in Chushul, executed by Surya International Enterprise Limited, a GroupSurya company. Developed at an altitude of 4,500 metres, this landmark initiative stands among the world’s third-highest solar installations. Despite temperatures dropping to –40°C, the project was engineered and delivered in a record 8 months, providing the Indian Army with clean, dependable electricity in one of the most challenging terrains in the Himalayas.

With Stage 1 successfully commissioned, the project marks a major advancement in reducing diesel reliance and enhancing energy security at remote forward posts.

Stage 2 will introduce an advanced hydrogen-based energy system, positioning this initiative to become one of the world’s highest-altitude hydrogen-enabled power solutions.
