🧠 Anti-Inflammatory Diet May Help Protect Brain Health & Reduce Dementia Risk

A healthy diet may play an important role in supporting brain function, even when early Alzheimer’s-related warning signs are present.

🔬 Researchers followed 1,865 older adults in Sweden over a period of up to 15 years, tracking blood markers associated with Alzheimer’s disease, brain-cell injury, diet patterns, and dementia risk.

📊 During the study, 240 participants developed dementia. Among those with higher-risk biomarkers, following a diet with lower inflammatory potential was linked to a 21%–29% lower risk of dementia.

🥗 This brain-supportive dietary pattern included:
✅ More vegetables and plant-based foods
✅ Tea and coffee consumption
✅ Reduced intake of red meat and processed foods
✅ Fewer refined grains and sugary drinks

🍵 Can Green Tea Support a Healthier Aging Brain?

A recent study from Japan involving 8,766 older adults without dementia found that people who drank three or more cups of green tea daily tended to have fewer cerebral white matter lesions—small areas of brain damage associated with aging, poor blood vessel health, cognitive decline, and increased dementia risk.

🧠 Key Findings:
✅ Higher green tea intake was linked to fewer white matter lesions.
✅ The association was strongest at around 3+ cups per day.
✅ Coffee did not show the same association.
✅ Green tea was not clearly linked to larger brain or hippocampal volume.

⚠️ Important: This study does not prove that green tea prevents dementia. Since it was an observational study, other healthy lifestyle factors may have influenced the results. More long-term research is needed.
