Maximum Darkness Achieved!

Welcome to the Winter Solstice. 🌑✨

It’s December 21st—the official start of astronomical winter and the longest night of the year in India!

Because our hemisphere is tilted furthest away from the Sun today, we get extra hours of darkness. Swipe through the image to see the science behind the solstice! 👉

Tonight’s Sky Menu:
A long night means epic stargazing. The brilliant winter sky is open for business hours longer than usual.
LOOK FOR:
🏹 The magnificent constellation Orion dominating the southern sky.
🐂 Ta**us and the sparkling Pleiades star cluster (the Seven Sisters).
☄️ The peak of the Ursid Meteor Shower—keep an eye out for shooting stars!
The cosmos has gifted us extra time tonight. How will you use it?

On the night of 13th December, time slowed down in the skies of Kachchh.
As Earth passed through the ancient debris of Geminids, the stars chose to move instead of us.

This is not a single moment—it’s hours of the sky breathing, captured from one of Kachchh’s darkest locations.
Each line is a reminder that while meteors briefly blaze and disappear, the stars patiently trace their stories across the night.

No noise.
No crowds.
Just cold air, deep darkness, and the quiet rhythm of the cosmos.

This is why we chase dark skies.
This is why we look up.

Geminids 2025 Guide

The Geminids Meteor Shower is returning—and 2025 is expected to be one of its strongest displays this decade.
Here’s everything you need to know to watch it like a pro.

Why Geminids Are the King of Meteor Showers:
• Earth passes through a dense debris stream from asteroid 3200 Phaethon, not a typical icy comet.
• The rocky dust burns deeper in our atmosphere, creating brighter, colourful meteors—yellow, green, even blue streaks.
• In ideal dark-sky conditions, 2025 could deliver up to 150 meteors/hour.

Peak Night in India:
Dec 13–14, 2025
Best viewing window: 10 PM to 4 AM IST (dark sky before the crescent moonrise)

How to Watch (and See More Meteors):
• Travel 10–20 km outside city lights
• Give your eyes 20 minutes to adapt
• Lie back and look straight up—no telescope needed
• Stay patient, stay warm, and let the sky perform

Want to Capture Them on Your Phone?
Use:
• Tripod (essential)
• Pro Mode
• Shutter: 10–18 sec
• ISO: 1600–3200
• Focus: manual, set to infinity (∞)

This is one of the most reliable and breathtaking meteor showers of the year—so mark your calendar, plan your dark-sky spot, and get ready for a night you’ll never forget.

India’s night sky is closing 2025 with a spectacular finale.
From the brightest meteor shower of the year to the final supermoon, December is packed with cosmic wonders you won’t want to miss.

Here’s your Stargazer’s Guide to December 2025:

• Geminids Meteor Shower (Dec 13–14)
The showstopper of the year. Up to 120 meteors/hour under ideal dark skies.
Bonus: Minimal moon interference—perfect for astrophotography.

• Final Supermoon of 2025
Up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than a typical full moon. A stunning sight for sky lovers and nightscape photographers.

• Ursids (Dec 21–22)
A subtle but beautiful meteor shower peaking on the winter solstice.
With zero moonlight, even 5–10 meteors/hour feel magical.

• Winter Solstice – Longest Night of the Year
More hours of darkness = more time under the stars.

• Jupiter at Its Best
Shining brilliantly in the east after sunset. Perfect target for telescopes and beginners.

December 2025 is the month to step outside, look up, and reconnect with the universe.
