Welcome to the International Asteroid Day
International Asteroid Day is an annual global event held on June 30th to raise awareness about asteroids and their potential impact on Earth. Established in 2015, it commemorates the Tunguska event of 1908, the largest asteroid impact in recorded history. The day promotes knowledge about asteroids, planetary defense, and space science through educational programs, expert talks, and public engagement activities. It aims to inspire worldwide interest in space and encourage scientific research to better understand and mitigate asteroid hazards. Join us to learn, share, and contribute to safeguarding our planet from asteroid threats.
An all-day seminar will take place at Nehru Science Center, Mumbai, on June 30, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Nehru Science Center Mumbai is the host for this event. The co-organisers are Akashganga Centre for Astronomy, Amateur Astronomers Association Mumbai, and Geological Society of India.
During this program, scientists from various laboratories, professors from renowned academic institutions, and astronomy experts will deliver lectures and share insights.
An asteroid exhibition will also be featured at the venue.
Amateur astronomy enthusiasts, school and college students, and science or astronomy teachers should take advantage of this unique opportunity.
