Enriching conversations with a variety of humans evoke a sense of fulfillment but it also raises many questions: the “whys” and the “why nots”, especially. After we finished explaining about the various ways in which water crises can be averted in their own neighbourhood, a child asks “Why is there no rain water harvesting in our Perumbakkam?”
A valid question asked for which many were unable to answer. During our visit to the neighbourhood, what inspired us to help find an answer to the child’s question was the amount
of space in the structure: the flat terraces of the housing blocks, which can be transformed into proper rain water harvesting systems.
The City of 1,000 Tanks is here to answer such disruptive questions and pave the way for a
better living space for all communities of our beloved city!

Summer of 2022 especially is seeing schools reopening as is the rest of society after a gruelling two years of pandemic. While it is the time of a sunny transition, we are here to remind you that this is also a time of water shortage for a lot of neighbourhoods. Mindful water usage is of priority right now.

While Koyambedu has a lot of moving population, water usage in this area is quite high. It is also situated closer to a reservoir that supplies water for parts of the city making its access to fresh water faster. Nevertheless, like the rest of Chennai, Koyambedu also suffers whenever there is a flood or a drought. The Nature Based Solutions not just deploy methods to cure a problem but also effectively use them to identify the underlying issue to provide a holistic solution.
