Next on our Leader Series is none other than R. SRINIVASAN, Managing Director, Poseidon Aquatech Pvt. Ltd., Managing Partner in Poseidon Biotech, Microbasia, and Partner in Poseidon Enterprises, Best India Marine Harvests and Delta Farms. A post graduate from the first batch of Mariculture students from CMFRI, he entered the Shrimp industry in the early 80’s at a time when commercial shrimp farming started and reached industrial proportions. Initially employed in corporate companies in India, his exposure and expertise in the field of aquaculture and biotechnology led him to start up his own company in 1995 which continued to grow to what is today the Poseidon group of companies. He has travelled widely as a consultant and entrepreneur and is respected in the industry.

R. Srinivasan was a founding member of SAP and was the Vice President during the 2004-2006 term. He served as the President of SAP in 2006-2008. He continues to be on its board as the Past President. He has been a strong bridge between Research Institutions and the shrimp farmers and entrepreneurs and has promoted mutual understanding in the aquaculture sector as a whole.

IMMUZONE is derived from a group of terrestrial plants through extraction process. IMMUZONE Contains a group of compounds, which improves the defensive mechanism of shrimps and other crustaceans through their synergic effect. It does not contain Glucans and Mannans.

Extensive lab and field studies have been carried out on the efficacy of IMMUZONE in shrimps at various stress levels due to environmental factors and presence of pathogens in the animal system.

IMMUZONE acts as an Immunostimulant in shrimps by increasing the defensive mechanism of the animals by way of enhancing hemocytic activities of shrimps. This is evident from the higher levels of Pro-phenol oxidase and nitric oxide in the shrimps after the ingestion of IMMUZONE while feeding.

IMMUZONE improves health and growth of shrimps in ponds, if used prior to:

a) Situations known to result in stress and impaired general performance of animals like change of temperature and other water quality parameters.

b) In the case of high risk due to exposure of pathogens.

c) During regular molting when animals are particularly susceptible to infectious agents.

Immunostimulant are primarily prophylactic agents, which should be used to elevate the general defense barrier of the organism and hence reduce the risk of disease.

B4 significantly improves the water quality and soil quality in the system by enhancing rapid decomposition of waste in the pond bottom under aerobic and microaerophilic conditions.

Am-Pro is a consortium of specially selected bacterial strains to specifically reduce the ammonia / nitrite level in aquaculture ponds. The higher stocking densities of P.vannamei increases the quantum of feed used. The unutilized / undigested feed in the ponds increases the ammonia / nitrite level. The increased ammonia / nitrite is reduced by the regular application of Am-Pro.

The micro organisms present in the PRO-TECT inhibit pathogenic bacteria by competitive inhibition. It also selectively kills the harmful organisms including Fungi. High enzymatic activities removes the organic load caused by excess feed, faecal matter and dead algae.

PRO-TECT is a natural, specifically selected microbial formulation, produced under high, quality controlled conditions to prevent contamination by pathogenic micro organisms. PRO-TECT liquid brew has been converted into a powder form by using a special matrix that retains the viability of the microbes. This increases the shelf life of the product and also gives the farmer a product ready for application.

Specificactions of the product:
This is a mixture of live bacterial cultures and yeast that have been found to be a very good in breaking down the heavy organic load accumulated by waste materials from shrimps, dead algae and left over feed materials at the bottom and water column during culture. The pond bottom discolours due to certain anaerobic bacteria, which acts on organic matter and decays them. Due to certain sulphur bacteria, hydrogen sulphide also evolves causing obnoxious odour. This is where Thionil plays a role as it has microaerophilic microbes, which can survive in low oxygen environment but can also multiply well in presence of oxygen. First in the aerobic stage they can break down organic load and remove hydrogen sulphide. After that they slowly bring in aerobic condition to the soil.

PRODUCT:
The bacterial mixture (Thionil) originally produced as the liquid brew is mixed with a special matrix in powder form that retains the viability of the microbes. This increases the shelf life of the product and also gives the farmer a product ready for application. This is very useful during pond preparation (i.e., after the previous crop is over) and later small dosages applied at frequent intervals during the culture operation help to keep the soil/pond bottom clean and devoid of organic wastes and maintains the water parameters for a consistent and stable algal bloom. A stable algal bloom solves many a problem in the ponds.
