“Publish as early as possible” sounds like good PhD advice. But research doesn’t follow a universal timeline.

Every project has its own pace.

Some papers can be developed early. Others require ethics approval, participant recruitment, months of interviews, data collection, experiments, analysis or collaboration.

The goal shouldn’t be to collect publications as quickly as possible.

It should be to build a credible research profile through meaningful, well-supported contributions.

That means planning publication opportunities early, writing consistently, seeking feedback and allowing enough time for revision and peer review.

Plan early. Write consistently. Publish strategically.

But don’t mistake someone else’s timeline for your own.

You’ve spent years building your research career. Can a reviewer understand your value in 30 seconds?

Publications, projects, conferences, teaching, skills and achievements can quickly turn an academic CV into a long list of information.

But more information doesn't always create more clarity.

The real question is:

Can the right person quickly understand what you do, what you’ve contributed and where your research is headed?

A strong academic profile isn't about adding every single detail.

It’s about:

• Highlighting what matters
• Organising your work clearly
• Making your contributions easy to understand
• Creating a profile with clear academic positioning

The IFERP AI Academic Resume Builder is designed specifically for academic and research profiles, helping structure areas such as publications, research experience, teaching roles and academic achievements.

Your work already has value.

Make sure your profile makes that value visible.

Your work matters. But can someone understand it quickly?

When someone reviews your academic profile, you may have less than a minute to make your work clear.

That’s why a strong academic resume isn’t about listing everything.

It’s about selecting, organizing and presenting what matters most.

Think:

• Lead with work relevant to where you’re going next
• Group your experience so it’s easy to navigate
• Put your strongest contributions first
• Make your role and contribution clear
• Choose clarity over unnecessary volume

The AI Academic Resume Builder by IFERP is designed specifically for researchers, professors, PhD candidates, postdocs and academic job seekers.

Build a profile that makes your work easier to understand.

AI may be changing research faster than universities can rewrite the curriculum.

From discovering literature and organizing documents to supporting analysis and writing, AI is already becoming part of the research workflow.

But adopting the tools is only one part of the conversation.

Researchers also need to know how to verify AI-generated information, protect research integrity, recognize limitations and maintain intellectual ownership.

The question isn't whether AI belongs in research.

The bigger question is:

Are researchers being prepared to use it responsibly and effectively?

We explore the growing gap between rapidly evolving AI tools and traditional research education in our latest LinkedIn article.

The problem isn't finding information.
It's finding the right information inside the document.

You search for a keyword.
Nothing useful.

Try another.
Still nothing.

Then you scroll. Search again. And repeat.

The answer may already be sitting inside the document. The challenge is getting to it without spending your research time hunting for phrases.

With DocChat, you can upload your PDFs and ask the document directly.

📄 Ask questions across your documents
🔎 Ask about specific text or formulas
📝 Get summaries and follow-ups
💡 Spend less time locating information and more time understanding it.

Less searching. More reading.

Be honest. How many times did you hit Ctrl+F today?

Searching through long PDFs, research papers and documents can turn a simple question into a frustrating task.

The information is there.

The real problem is finding it without spending half your time scrolling, searching and trying different keywords.

That’s where DocChat comes in.

Upload your document, ask your question and get answers directly from the document, with citations that point back to the source.

Because your time should go into understanding the research, not hunting for the answer.

One citation can change a number. But what does that number actually tell us?

Does self-citation inflate your h-index?

The answer is: sometimes.

But there’s a bigger conversation behind the number.

Self-citation can be a legitimate part of building on your previous research. At the same time, excessive self-citation can distort how citation-based metrics are interpreted.

So should your h-index be treated as the complete picture of your research impact?

Probably not.

Swipe through to understand where self-citations fit into the bigger picture of research metrics.

What do you think: Should self-citations be counted in the h-index?
