Ironically, five years after our birth, we asked ourselves – Why we do, what we do? Do we exist because we are good at building buildings? ate lives offered us? When construction has come to mean the exact opposite of what it actually means from the environmental perspective, we understood there were gap between our thoughts, values and action. Cutting down the trees at site made us uncomfortable. People thinking of rain water harvesting as an expense had us worrying. Were we an accomplice in generating debris mindlessly or were we just doing our jobs? We did not know. Emptying half-empty tins of paint into the drains and soil made us cringe. People trusting products and not people made us think. We decided to shift the paradigm. Consequently, we unlearnt all that had been taught all these years and diverted our focus to learning through workshops, books and travel. No wonder,we fell in love with the world of sustainable architecture with intelligent design aided by natural materials.In fact, we feel privileged and grateful to be working on an idea that our work can impact lives beyond generations. The Japanese call it the Ikigai, one that makes one’s life worthwhile. The French call it the raison d’etre – the reason for one’s existence. We call it – மண்.மழை .மனை (Earth.Rain and Land)
