We are the witness through which the universe becomes conscious of its glory, of its magnificence.

Team Garud (Structure division) is done with their rocket's structural system which includes all the parts which make up the frame of the rocket; the cylinder body tubes, couplers & bulkheads, centering rings, fairings & fins, and the nosecone.
Rocket structures must be strong but light weight. The performance of the rocket depends directly on the weight of the structure. A variety of mass ratios are used to characterize the structural weight of a rocket.

Stay tuned for the updates as we start with the final assembly and testings.

A rocket depends on its fins for good guidance. A well-placed fin has its root exactly parallel to the long axis of the rocket, and the line of the fin passes through the center of the body tube. The team prepared the slots which will keep the fins aligned axially. The jig only keeps the fins aligned radially.
Axial alignment is critical. Fins that are out of axial alignment will cause the model to spin — the single largest performance loss in rocket construction.

Hey Folks ! We have come a long way but we have a longer way to go. IREC is one of the prominent competition which has taught not only the technicality in building a sounding rocket but also the way a team should work with dedication and focus. We have many more highs to share along with a few lows.
You all can reach out to us if you or your team has any questions or suggestions.

We'd love to have Experimental Sounding Rocket Association and Spaceport America Cup follow us and share some of our progress!

Manufacturing Carbon Fiber tubes can be a bit difficult at times.
We have used peel ply rather than going for vacuum mechanism to extract the tube out of the mandrel.
Peel ply was draped over the epoxied surface as the epoxy sets up. Once cured, we peeled off the fabric, and what’s left behind was a perfectly smooth surface that’s ready for a quick sanding, or for the next round of epoxy.

Our team prepared proper customized profile of nosecone on simulation software which was then converted on CAD and manually drawn template. A CNC Lathe Machine was used on which our structure's team worked and prepared the nosecone die made of 'Miranda Wood'. Abrasive Machining was later done to provide final surface finish.

The team moves towards the fabrication phase - with the bulkheads, centering rings and fins getting accurately manufactured via water jet cutting technology.
Stay tuned for more updates as we prepare our rocket body tubes and nosecone...
