proudly celebrates the distinguished journey of Shri Jagdamba Prasad G. Dobriyal, Executive Director & Chief, Exploration & Development Directorate, as he marks his superannuation after more than 36 years of dedicated service to India’s hydrocarbon exploration and development efforts.
A Geology postgraduate, Shri Dobriyal joined ONGC in 1990 and built an exceptional career spanning Mumbai, Sivasagar, Chennai, Kakinada, and Dehradun. From his early years in operations geology to leading some of ONGC’s most critical exploration and development functions, his career reflects a rare blend of scientific excellence, technical depth, and strategic leadership.
Over the decades, he made significant contributions across operations geology, basin interpretation, HPHT field development, deepwater and ultra-deepwater exploration, and exploration monitoring. His expertise played a pivotal role in advancing ONGC’s understanding of complex geological systems and unlocking new opportunities across frontier and mature basins alike.
During his long tenure in Chennai and later at Kakinada, Shri Dobriyal was closely associated with interpretation studies, HPHT field development initiatives, and deepwater projects, contributing to the strengthening of ONGC’s offshore exploration portfolio. His subsequent leadership roles at KDMIPE, GEOPIC, and the Basin Research Group further enhanced ONGC’s geoscientific capabilities and exploration strategy.
As Head of GEOPIC and later Chief of the Exploration & Development Directorate, he provided strategic direction to ONGC’s exploration and development activities, fostering innovation, scientific rigor, and collaboration across disciplines. Widely respected for his analytical approach, mentorship, and commitment to excellence, he helped shape the next generation of geoscientists and exploration leaders.
With every prospect evaluated, every basin interpreted, and every team mentored, Shri Dobriyal has left an enduring imprint on ONGC’s exploration legacy. His contributions will continue to inspire future generations working to strengthen India’s energy security.
