As a bridge engineer, I’ve always admired structures that blend technical excellence with architectural elegance.
One of the most impressive examples is the Octávio Frias de Oliveira Bridge, also known as Ponte Estaiada, located in São Paulo, Brazil.
Completed in 2008, this cable-stayed bridge features a 138-meter tall X-shaped tower, a design that remains unique in the world.
Two curved decks intersect at the central tower, carrying six lanes of traffic over the Pinheiros River.
The bridge was constructed using segmental methods with balanced cantilever techniques and high-strength cable strands. Its X-shaped tower, built with slip-form construction, allows for a stunning dual-deck design that symbolizes movement and innovation.
The bridge spans 1.6 kilometers across the Pinheiros River and accommodates six lanes of traffic. Its 138-meter tall tower supports two separate curved decks in opposite directions.
Designed by João Valente Filho and built by OAS Engenharia, the structure showcases advanced construction methods such as slip-form tower construction and segmental cantilevering.
