स्वच्छ ऊर्जा के उपयोग को बढ़ावा देने के प्रयास के तहत केंद्र सरकार ने छतों में लगी ग्रिड से जुड़े सोलर सिस्टम और स्मॉल सोलर पावर प्लांट कार्यक्रम के लिए वित्तीय सहायता करीब 10 गुना बढ़ाकर 5,000 करोड़ रुपये करने का फैसला किया।
जेनरल कैटिगरी के राज्यों और केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों को सब्सिडी में 30 प्रतिशत पूंजी सब्सिडी उपलब्ध कराई जाएगी जबकि पूर्वोत्तर राज्यों, सिक्किम, उत्तराखंड, हिमाचल प्रदेश, जम्मू-कश्मीर तथा लक्षद्वीप, अंडमान निकोबार द्वीपसमूह जैसे विशेष श्रेणी के राज्यों को 70 प्रतिशत पूंजी की सब्सिडी दी जाएगी। प्राइवेट सेक्टर में कमर्शल और इंडस्ट्रियल इंस्टॉलेशंस के लिए कोई सब्सिडी नहीं होगी।
