Use of a liquid carrier brings a high level of safety to the transport and storage of hydrogen but requires energy- and cost-intensive extraction at points of use, such as fueling stations. A photocatalytic process geared toward streamlining the extraction process has been engineered at North Carolina State University.

A provisional patent has been filed for the technology, which applies a reusable photocatalyst and sunlight to extract hydrogen gas from its liquid carrier more quickly and consumes less rhodium relative to available photocatalytic methods. Process byproducts are hydrogen gas and the liquid carrier itself, which can also be reused repeatedly.

A continuous-flow reactor is packed with micron-scale grains of titanium oxide coated with rhodium. These coated particles function as photoreactive catalysts that, when exposed to solar radiation, react with the liquid carrier to release hydrogen molecules as a gas. As only the outer grains of titanium oxide are coated with rhodium, the cost is considerably lower than that of a conventional batch reactor.

The system tested released 99% of the hydrogen molecules from the liquid carrier in three hours, eight times faster than conventional batch reactors, which require 24 hours to reach 99% yield.

Govt may provide subsidy for putting SOLAR PANEL ON 500 TRAIN ROOFS..
NOTE : Since trains already have batteries attached to the coaches, the electricity generated from the solar panels will be used to run fans and lights and not to provide power for the locomotive’s traction

image of wind turbines in skyscraperThe Bahrain World Trade Center is the first skyscraper to have wind turbines integrated into the structure of the building.

Three large wind turbines are suspended between two office towers. The towers are aerodynamically tapered to funnel wind and draw air into the turbines. tall building with wind turbines

This airfoil tapering allows the wind to enter the turbines at a perpendicular angle and increases air speed as much as 30 percent in each of the 95 ft wide turbine rotors.

The turbines supply about 15 percent of the electricity used by the skyscraper - approximately the same amount of electricity used by 300 homes.

A 13-year-old Kenyan boy came up with an ingenious solution to keep lions from feasting on his family’s cattle. Young Richard Turere, who lives near Nairobi National Park, noticed that the lions shied away from the family farm if someone was walking around with a flashlight. So he rigged up a system of flashing LED bulbs on poles. Turere came up with his “Lion Lights” despite lacking any formal electronics or engineering training.

: Wind power without spinning blades? Impossible, you might say -- but you’d be wrong. The Dutch architecture firm Mecanoo installed this powerful, curious-looking contraption at the Delft University of Technology in March. Instead of translating the mechanical energy derived from the movement of large blades rotated by the wind, the bladeless turbine lets wind move electrically charged water droplets against the direction of an electric field, increasing the potential energy of the particle. A collecting system then harvests that excess energy. The lack of large moving parts means the turbine is quieter and creates much less vibration, making it much better-suited to urban environments.

World’s Fastest Passenger Train.....

The people of Japan have been enchanted by the longest, largest and fastest train in the world. From the middle of the twentieth century, the engineers are working on the maglev train concept. In 1968, James Powell, a researcher at Brookhaven National Lab, thought of using maglev trains (derived from magnetic levitation). The old wheel and axle model has been replaced by levitation system in maglev which lifts the cars by magnetism.

Japan’s MagLev Train is Fast, Very Fast The lift and push are provided to the train by the repulsive and attractive forces of magnetism used by this system.

The maglev trains that are operating at the present have been designed by the engineers in the preceding decade. A new maglev train has been tested on the Yamanashi Maglev Test Line recently.

The most recent maglev train in Japan is known as the LO Series and can run at speeds of up to 500 km/h. In its first run along the 26.6-miles test track, the train reached its top speed before it touched the 3-mile marker.

People who had the honor to ride on this high-tech LO told that they did not feel any turbulence or heard any noise while the train was moving at the great speeds. But it was a different story for the observers outside the train.
You feel a shock wave and a massive gust of wind as the train sped past you & a deafening sound that made conversation all but impossible.

It is still to be considered if this type of turbulence restricts LO from use in densely populated areas. Engineers have sufficient time till the planned inaugural date of LO in 2027 to reduce these external forces.

More maglev trains are expected to come in the areas of , China and even the US in the future decades. The Maglev trains and Hyperloops will expectantly make mid-distance travel fast, calm and advanced.

World's Biggest Water Pump In New Orleans:

The pump is just a small part of a larger $14bn plan to seal up New Orleans' levees and bolster the city's disaster preparedness, but it's without a doubt the most visually impressive. PopSci's thrown together a couple of diagrams to give us a sense of scale, and trust me, they're necessary—see that little white thing next to the diesel engine? That's a full-sized human being. There aren't a whole lot of companies that make combustion engines that cartoonishly huge

What is the meaning of APDV, ASFS, ATFT... which we generally find in bike engines????

APDV :
The term APDV stands for "Advanced Pro Series Digital Variable Ignition System". APDV means, the injection of the spark plugs is controlled digitally, which offers better and efficient combustion of fuel. Bikes which APDV engine are Splendor Pro, Passion Pro and the Splendor NXG.

ASFS:
The term ASFS stands for "Advanced Swirl Flow Induction System". The technology is similar to that of the Bajaj Auto’s DTS-Si (Digital Twin Spark – Swirl Induction) technology. Previously Super Splendor was marketed as the Quantum Core but it was not a great success. So the company marketed the bikes in the name ASFS.

ATFT:
ATFT stands for "Advanced Tumble Flow Induction Technology".

A piston ring is a split ring that fits into a groove on the outer
diameter of a piston in a reciprocating engine such as an
internal combustion engine or steam engine.
The three main functions of piston rings in reciprocating
engines are :
>Sealing the combustion chamber so that there is no transfer
of gases from the combustion chamber to the crank.
>Supporting heat transfer from the piston to the cylinder wall.
Regulating engine oil consumption.
>The gap in the piston ring compresses to a few thousandths
of an inch when inside the cylinder bore.

Flat-twin engine:-
A flat-twin is a two cylinder internal combustion engine with
the cylinders arranged on opposite sides of the crankshaft.
BMW Motorrad manufactures a number of flat-twin engine
motorcycles,as do Ural and Dnepr. The geometry gives good
primary balance, but there is an unbalanced moment on the
crankshaft caused by the pistons being offset from each other.
Flat-twin engines were used in several of Henry Ford's early
cars, including the Ford 1903-04 Model A, Model C, and Model
F.Flat-twins have been used to power light aircraft, although
most piston-engined aircraft have used more cylinders for
more power. Notable flat-twin aircraft engines include the
Aeronca E-107 and E-113, the Praga B2, and the Bristol
Cherub.
A disadvantage of this layout is that it exposes the cylinders
and valve covers to the danger of collision damage.
