A Stellar Conclusion to the Space Experiential Learning Center ( ) Program! 🚀✨

The stars aligned at the American Center New Delhi on January 20th as we celebrated the historic graduation of our SELC pioneers. This flagship initiative, funded by the U.S. Department of State, stands as a vital pillar of the U.S.-India TRUST framework and a testament to our shared frontiers in STEM innovation.

We were profoundly honored to have global icon and NASA astronaut Ms. Sunita Williams as our Chief Guest. Her presence was truly a dream realized, turning the ceremony into a lifetime memory for our students. In her moving address, she remarked that the potential of this young generation is "unmatched," inspiring our graduates to view the cosmos as their next destination.

We were privileged to be joined by Ms. Amy Schedlbauer, Minister-Counsellor for Economic Affairs at the U.S. Embassy India in New Delhi and Dr. Praveen Kumar Somasundaram, Head (International Cooperation), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India (DST)—visionary leaders driving the U.S.-India S&T partnership. We extend our deepest gratitude to Dr Chaitali Bhattacharya (Executive Director- Interim, Indo-US Science and Technology Forum IUSSTF) and Ms. Adelle Gillen (Public Diplomacy Officer, American Center) for welcoming the gathering and setting an inspiring tone for the event.

A special note of thanks goes to the U.S. Consulates in Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. Your steadfast support in facilitating regional workshops ensured the program’s impact reached across India.

We are deeply grateful for the unwavering dedication of Mr. Vikas Sood and Ms. Chhaya Sharma at the American Center New Delhi, whose foundational coordination anchored the program’s operations, alongside the steadfast efforts of Ms. Priya Thomas and the IUSSTF team in streamlining the program's implementation. Furthermore, we commend Ms. Nikhitha Chadde, Ms. Isha Chhikara and the Genex Space team for their technical brilliance in translating this visionary curriculum into a high-impact, hands-on reality for India's next generation of space pioneers.

The most poignant moment arrived when students of the Astronomy and Space Club received their certificates and SELC souvenir boxes from our distinguished guests. These 63 young explorers—who have spent months building satellites and planning missions—now stand as the next generation of U.S.-India collaboration.

As we bid farewell to this cohort, we are confident their trajectories will take them to extraordinary heights. IUSSTF remains committed to empowering the scientists of tomorrow! 🌌🛰️

The spirit of Indo-U.S. space collaboration reached the vibrant city of Kolkata on January 27 as the Space Experiential Learning Center ( ) hosted the “Beyond Earth: An Indo-U.S. Cosmos Exploration Workshop.” This immersive event, held at the American Center Kolkata in partnership with the M.P. Birla Planetarium, brought together a new cohort of young space pioneers eager to explore the final frontier.

The workshop commenced with addresses by Dr. Chaitali Bhattacharya, Interim Executive Director of Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF), and Ms. Samidha Redkar, Deputy Public Affairs Officer at the American Center Kolkata, who introduced budding space enthusiasts to the program’s genesis and the roles of the partner organizations, setting an inspiring and forward-looking tone for the day. A key highlight was the thought-provoking keynote delivered by Professor Dibyendu Nandi of the Center of Excellence in Space Sciences India (CESSI) and the Department of Physical Sciences, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata (IISER), Kolkata. Through an engaging presentation, he provided an overview of key principles of astrophysics and highlighted the wide range of opportunities in Indo-U.S. space science and associated laboratories, offering an immersive and enriching experience for the participants.

Throughout the day, students transitioned from theory to practice by engaging in sophisticated hands-on activities led by the technical team at Genex Space. From assembling DIY spectroscopes to study the language of light to analysing complex mission imagery from both NASA and ISRO, participants gained a deeper understanding of how scientists decode the secrets of the universe. The journey continued with a guided scientific exploration at the iconic M.P. Birla Planetarium, where students visualized the vast scale of the cosmos. The workshop successfully bridged the gap between classroom learning and real-world application, reaffirming that the potential of India’s youth in the STEM sector is boundless.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the U.S. Consulate General Kolkata for their steadfast support and to the team at the American Center Kolkata for providing the ideal foundation for this initiative. We also thank Ms. Nikhitha Chadde and her team for conducting the workshop. As these young explorers received their participation certificates, it was evident that the SELC program has successfully launched yet another group of innovators ready to contribute to the U.S.–India strategic technology partnership.

We are thrilled to organize the second-last workshop, “Beyond Earth: Indo-U.S. Rocket Science Workshop,” at The Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet as part of our series of workshops under the Space Experiential Learning Centre ( )—a premier collaborative effort between the American Center New Delhi, the Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF), and Genex Space.

By bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application, SELC aligns with the U.S.–India TRUST framework to foster innovation in the space sector across India. A vital component of the SELC initiative is the organisation of specialised space workshops across U.S. Consulate regions in the country.

Following the successful completion of the first two consulate workshops at RRI Bengaluru (Chennai Consulate) and SAC Ahmedabad (Mumbai Consulate), we were proud to bring this enriching experience to Hyderabad in collaboration with the U.S. Consulate General, Hyderabad.

The Hyderabad workshop served as a high-impact culmination of experiential learning. The day was defined by a seamless blend of expert interaction and practical application, beginning with an inspiring welcome by Dr. Chaitali Bhattacharya (Executive Director- Interim, IUSSTF) and an inaugural address by Ms. Emilia Smith (Public Diplomacy Officer, U.S. Consulate General Hyderabad). Ms. Nikhitha Chadde (CEO, Genex Space) set the mission's stage, followed by an intensive keynote on launch vehicles and aerospace frontiers by Mr. Sireesh PALLIKONDA (COO, Red Balloon Aerospace & Ex-Skyroot VP).

The 34 participating students dove into the frontiers of aerospace engineering through hands-on sessions where they designed and assembled their own model rockets. These activities allowed them to observe the principles of thrust, stability, and flight firsthand through live launches, all while engaging in critical discussions regarding the Indo-U.S. government and private space ecosystems. The program concluded with a memorable night sky observation session, where students viewed the Moon and Jupiter through a telescope—an experience that deeply resonated with every participant.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the U.S. Consulate General, Hyderabad, for their invaluable support, and to the leadership and faculty at The Hyderabad Public School for their excellent coordination. The success of this workshop stands as a testament to the power of collaboration between IUSSTF, Genex Space, and the U.S. Consulate. Together, we are empowering the next generation of space pioneers and strengthening U.S.-India STEM excellence!
