Translational Research in Cerebral Stroke Biology - TRICS The TRICS study is dedicated to better understand the role of biomarkers and genetic mechanisms in c

Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) accounts for approximately 20-30% of acute strokes in India and is still associated with a mortality of up to 35–50%. Several studies report prognostic value of biomarker in ICH but they are either preliminary observation or inadequately powered to analyse independent contribution of biomarkers over and above clinical and neuroimaging data. Prediction of poor short t

erm or long term prognosis with the use of clinical neuroimaging and biomarkers will help clinician to stratify patients for early referral/intervention. Although stroke is the third commonest cause of death in the UK, 80% of deaths from chronic diseases such as stroke occur in low and middle income countries such as India. The genetics of stroke is currently receiving worldwide attention yet the country which faces the largest threat of stroke, India, is being left behind in this revolution. We propose to create facility to conduct sustainable leadership in the field of genetic computational analysis of common diseases at AIIMS, using stroke as a paradigm of samples from stroke patients.
