Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) Main Hospital has earned a name for itself in the Durgapur Shilpanchal belt and adjoining areas towards successfully performing rare surgical operations. DSP Main Hospital has recently treated rare and complex cases which are done only at Tertiary care centres like CMC Vellore, etc.
A non-entitled patient recently visited DSP Main Hospital's OPD in March 2025 with chief complaints of chronic infection, limb shortening, function lasea and discharging sinus from the right thigh for the last 2 years. History revealed previous multiple OTs done by Ortho surgeons elsewhere. The patient was bed ridden for the last 2 years, who had come all the way from Tamluk, Mednipur.
The patient was in a lot of agony, and it was decided by the Orthopedics surgeons of DSP Main Hospital to manage him in DSP Hospital itself. OT was done on 18.05.2026 without any Oncosurgery or CTVS support where Complete Proximal Femur Replacement with Megaprosthesis was done. After a careful vessel dissection, a 15cm ominous mass was extracted in totto. The patient is now fine and his limb length discrepancy has also been corrected. The patient is presently happy and satisfied with the surgeon and is walking within one week of surgery.
This complex surgery cm reconstruction was done by the team of Orthopedics surgeons of DSP Main Hospital led by Dr. Priyank Sahoo and assisted by Dr.Chetan and Sister Shraboni Saha in presence of Anaesthesists, Dr. Pankaj Kumar, Dr. Devashri Y Chilke, Dr. Samaprita and Dr. Arunima. DSP Hospital under the guidance and support of Dr. Raj Ranjan Kumar CMO I/C and Dr. Rupak Goswami CMO takes pride in its Orthopedics Surgeons and Medical team for making such surgery possible for the first time in any SAIL Hospital. The Orthopedics surgeons of DSP Main Hospital commented that this type of surgery has not been done even at Mission Hospital or Healthworld.
