Before the floods, coal simmered in the background, contributing about 30% of Sikkim’s electricity. Hydropower, fueled by majestic glaciers and monsoon bounty, hummed at the heart of our grid.

But the recent GLOF induced floods created havoc, leaving dams in tatters and rivers gasping for breath.

Now, in the parched embrace of the dry season, coal has usurped the throne, powering more than half our electricity needs.

This insatiable hunger for fossil fuels isn’t just draped in smog, it’s a vicious dance with disaster. Burning coal throws a blanket over the Earth, trapping heat, and birthing more glacial lake outbursts like the one that ravaged us. It’s an endless cycle.
