Mission completed: connecting communities – Nyamugari trail bridge
The new 57 m Nyamugari suspension bridge now stands as a lasting symbol of connection and
possibility – providing reliable access for 6,128 people in Murambi, Shyembe-Mubuga and Nyabwoma
local communities.
The project was a once-in-a-lifetime, “fulfilling and rewarding” experience for the nine Ramboll
colleagues supporting the build over the Mashyiga River in Karongi, Rwanda.
More than steel and timber, the new bridge provides year-round access to schools, markets and
healthcare, replacing an often unsafe, impassable crossing into a dependable route that supports daily
life and long-term opportunities.
Following careful planning and preparations prior to arrival, the team’s onsite build took two-weeks,
which included assembling and sending the swings, bending reinforcement bars, completing decking,
installing fencing and paintwork, and carrying out landscaping. Final inspections were completed and
approvals were secured from the local authority, setting the stage for the official inauguration.
