Led by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Government of India (DoNER), this initiative aims to blend Northeast India’s eco-friendly Eri Silk, also known as 'Peace Silk,' with Rajasthan’s lightweight and globally admired Kota Doria fabric to create a premium textile for domestic and international markets. Aligned with Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 5F Vision and the Make in India mission, the collaboration is expected to strengthen India’s handloom sector through artisan training, design innovation, branding and market development while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for weaving communities across both regions.

SM Group marks a proud milestone in its hospitality wing SM Hotels and Resorts Pvt Ltd as Hyatt Regency, Gangtok officially breaks ground in the heart of Gangtok.

The 150-room five-star hotel had its foundation stone laid on 1st March 2026 at Chintan Bhawan, Gangtok by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang in the presence of senior officials and partners. The event was led by our Directors Mr. Vikas Agarwal and Mr. Rajiv Agarwal.

Coming up in the Mintokgang area within the Suryavilas mixed-use project, just 2 km from MG Marg, the hotel is being developed by Gyalshing Hotels Pvt. Ltd. under SM Hotels and Resorts Pvt. Ltd. and Poddar Group. Designed as a world-class hospitality and events destination with luxury amenities and a licensed casino, the project will strengthen Sikkim’s premium tourism and MICE landscape while supporting high-value travel, destination weddings, employment and local growth in the Eastern Himalayas.
