Calcutta Institute of Technology observed Anti-Ragging Day on 12 August 2026 with an Anti-Ragging Awareness Programme aimed at strengthening the Institute’s commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and ragging-free campus.The programme involved active participation from both newly admitted students and senior students. The initiative focused on creating awareness about the harmful consequences of ragging and encouraging students to uphold mutual respect, responsible behaviour, friendship, and harmony within the campus community.

As part of the awareness campaign, anti-ragging leaflets were distributed among students. The leaflets highlighted the importance of maintaining a ragging-free environment and encouraged students to report any incident of ragging rather than remaining silent. The participation of senior students alongside freshers also reinforced the message that seniors have an important role in welcoming, supporting, and guiding their juniors in a positive manner.The programme helped create a sense of collective responsibility among students and promoted a culture of mutual understanding and respect. The active involvement of both senior and fresher students demonstrated the Institute’s shared commitment to preventing ragging and ensuring that every student feels safe, respected, and welcomed.

The programme was successfully conducted with the cooperation and participation of students and members of Anti Ragging Committee and Squad members. The awareness initiative will contribute towards continuing and strengthening the ragging-free environment at Calcutta Institute of Technology.

Prof. (Dr.) Rabindra Debnath

Prof. (Dr.) Rabindra Debnath (10 August 1953 – 10 January 2023) was a distinguished pharmaceutical scientist, educationist, institution builder and community leader whose life was dedicated to science, education and social transformation.

A scholar of Pharmaceutical Sciences (M.Pharm., Ph.D.), Prof. Debnath made important contributions to pharmaceutical research, with documented work spanning pharmaceutical analysis, drug formulation, microencapsulation, microspheres, controlled drug delivery and natural-product pharmacology. His research reflected his commitment to scientific innovation and the advancement of pharmaceutical education.

His vision, however, extended far beyond the laboratory and classroom. In 1995, he founded the Uluberia Rural Society for Care of Health & Research Development (URSCHARD) with a strong emphasis on social welfare, education and community development. Through this foundation, he pursued his larger dream of creating an educational ecosystem that would bring quality education and greater opportunities to the people of Uluberia and surrounding areas.

He subsequently founded Bharat Academy & Sciences, an English-medium educational institution, and played a pioneering role in developing professional and higher education institutions. His institutional vision became associated with the development of Calcutta Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology & Allied Health Sciences, Calcutta Institute of Technology, Bharat Technology and Bharat Pharmaceutical Technology, Tripura, bringing diverse educational initiatives together under the broader identity of Bharat Consortium Institutes.

For Prof. Debnath, education was not simply a means of obtaining a qualification. It was a means of creating opportunity, developing character, empowering communities and contributing to national development. His philosophy can be summed up in the principle that quality education is fundamental to the progress of society and the nation.

His contribution also extended to the professional pharmacy community. He was associated with the Indian Pharmaceutical Association, Bengal Branch, and served as a member of the West Bengal Pharmacy Council.

Prof. Debnath's legacy continues through the institutions, research facilities, students and educators connected with his vision. His name is commemorated through the Prof. (Dr.) Rabindra Debnath Research Laboratory and institutional awards recognising excellence in teaching, mentoring, research and service.
