Best soil types to build your house underground. While cohesive soils, like clay are not very suitable, granular types, like sand and gravel are good, because these types allow water to drain quickly and compact well.

The groundwater level is also very important.
The best areas for building an underground-house. Areas with significant temperature extremes and low humidity are best.

Permafrost areas are least suitable for underground buildings, as well as areas with high humidity, because the humidity can lead to condensation on interior walls.

The Mud House, kachcha, is a building made of natural materials such as mud, grass, bamboo, thatch or sticks and is therefore a short-lived structure. Since it is not made for endurance it requires constant maintenance and replacement. The practical limitations of the building materials available dictate the specific form which can have a simple beauty. The advantage of a Clay House is that construction materials are cheap and easily available and relatively little labor is required.
