Countdown has started for launch.

The launch control team recently arrived at their stations and the official countdown for the launch of the Artemis II mission began at 4:44 p.m. EDT (2044 UTC). Teams will begin methodically going through the launch countdown checklist to prepare for the liftoff of the crewed lunar mission — currently scheduled for no earlier than 6:24 p.m. EDT (2224 UTC) on Wednesday, April 1.

ഞാൻ അസുഖം ലേശം കൂടി മൂന്നുമാസമായി വീട്ടിൽ ഇരുന്നപ്പോൾ ആണ് മനസിലായത് ഒറ്റപ്പെടൽ ഒരു ഭീകരമായ അവസ്ഥ ആണെന്നും ആരോഗ്യമുള്ളപ്പോൾ ഉള്ള സുഹൃത്തുക്കൾ, ബന്ധുജനങ്ങൾ, കസിൻസ്, nieces , ഇവരൊക്കെ പിന്നീട് നമ്മളെ ഒറ്റപ്പെടലിൻ്റെ എത്ര വലിയ പടുകുഴിയിലേക്കാണ് നമ്മളെ തള്ളി വിടുന്നത് എന്നുള്ള സത്യം മാനസിക ആരോഗ്യം ഒരു വലിയ പ്രഹേളിക ആണ്... ഓരോ ദിവസവും ഞാണിന്മേൽ നടക്കുന്ന ഒരു ഫീൽ. ഇന്ന് ഒകെ ആണെങ്കിൽ നാളെ നിരാശയുടെ ആലിംഗനംതിൽ ആയിരിക്കും... ഇതൊക്കെ സമൂഹമാധ്യമത്തിൽ എഴുതി അറ്റൻഷൻ സിക്കിംഗ് നടത്താൻ പ്ലാൻ ഇല്ല. പക്ഷേ വല്ലപ്പോഴും തുറന്നുപറയൽ നല്ലതാണ് എന്ന് കേട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്

Earth is set to witness a ‘mini-moon’ called 2024 PT5, a small asteroid that will not collide with Earth but will orbit around it, similar to the Moon, for a brief period of around two months by the end of this month.

According to a paper published in the Research Notes of the American Astronomical Society, the asteroid will be temporarily captured by Earth's gravity until around November. Detected by the Asteroid Terrestrial-Impact Last Alert System (ATLAS) on August 7, it will orbit Earth from September 29 to November 25 before breaking free from the planet's gravitational pull.

Astronomers refer to it as a “temporarily captured flyby” since it won’t complete a full orbit. In contrast, mini-moons that do complete a full orbit are known as “temporarily captured orbiters”.

A report by Live Science mentioned a study suggesting that 2024 PT5 likely originated from the Arjuna asteroid belt, which contains space rocks that orbit the sun near Earth. Due to its orbit being similar to Earth's, calculations show that the asteroid will return to orbit Earth in January 2025 and again in 2055.

Remember the big solar storm in May? Scientists have just discovered that, in addition to creating spellbinding auroras, the storm also made a new temporary ring of charged, high-energy particles encircling Earth.

Earth is typically surrounded two of these giant, donut-shaped rings of particles called the Van Allen Belts. But during especially large solar storms, a temporary third Belt can form sandwiched between the two permanent ones.

The new Belt, which was discovered by NASA’s Colorado Inner Radiation Belt Experiment (CIRBE) CubeSat, could last months to years. Scientists are studying the data to better understand the Belt and how long it might stick around. Stay tuned for their findings!
