Waterproofing performance does not depend only on the coating.
The reinforcing mesh / fabric embedded between coats plays a major role in bonding, crack-bridging, flexibility, durability and long-term performance.

We often compare these 4 commonly used reinforcement materials:

1) Chopped Strand Mat (CSM)
Made of chopped glass fibres bonded into a non-woven mat
Best suited for polyester, vinyl ester and epoxy resin systems
Offers high tensile strength, but is comparatively stiff and brittle
Not generally preferred for water-based acrylic or many cementitious waterproofing systems
More suitable for FRP lining, resin-based laminates and specialized composite work
2) Coated Alkali-Resistant Glass Mesh (45 GSM)
Lightweight woven mesh
Commonly used with acrylic coatings, flexible cementitious coatings and selected PU systems

Post-Tensioned (PT) roof slab at a prime commercial high-rise (B+G+18) in Sector V, Salt Lake, Kolkata. Here is what our advanced Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) uncovered: The Root Cause: High thermal stresses over a 70,000 sq. ft. expanse—combined with a lack of proper expansion joints—caused severe screed delamination and cracking.
