INTRODUCTION TO TASHI RABGAIS LAY


Skusheks Tashi Rabgias is an eminent scholar of Tibetan (Bhoti) language fn the Ladakh region of the State of Jammu and Kashmir. He was confer the •Robe of Honour Award' by the Jammu and Kashmir Governmenti the year 197l.He is a recipient of 'Bhasha Saman Award' for the the 1998 of the Sahitya Academy, New Delhi for significant contribution the promotion and development of Bhoti Language in Ladakh region at Dogra Ratan Award' for the year 2007, conferred by the Council 4 Promotion of Dogri Language and Voice of the Millions, New Delhi : a relentless crusader of his chosen vocation, that is, the usage an promotion of Bhoti language. And State award for literature for the yea 2008. He has authored several books of songs and poetry, religion, culture and
history. His maiden work included a collection of Folk songs ol Ladakh' published under the aegis of Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages which became popular among the masses during the 1970s onwards and it became part of the cultural milieu of thel region for several decades thereafter. With over ninety winters behind him, his contribution to the culture of the region has been truly immense. The present work has been a fruit of 17 years of consistent research and a personal journey into the bygone era, its history with untiring errands to the remotest corner of Ladakh region to enquire about its ancient legacy. With the help of limited published records in Tibetan language, his study of scriptures placed across and discussion with the elders of the society and the learned lamas of various monasteries of Ladakh.
