Here's how a coconut shell becomes high-performance activated carbon - mostly within our Kerala facility:
Raw material selection – Not every shell qualifies. We select for maturity and density, since this directly determines the final carbon's, hardness and pore development.
Carbonization – Controlled pyrolysis at high temperature, in a low-oxygen environment, converts raw shell into char, preserving the cellular structure that will later form the carbon's pore network.
Activation – The defining step. Steam activation opens up the internal pore structure, building the surface area that determines adsorption capacity tuned by time, temperature, and method depending on the target application.
Sizing & grading – Crushed, sieved, or extruded into granular, powdered, pelletized form, matched to mesh size and end-use requirement.
Lab testing & QC – Every batch is validated in-house for adsorption capacity, hardness, ash content, and moisture before dispatch, with application-specific testing available for customised orders.
