The lowest EPC quote may carry the highest equity requirement.

Developers often compare EPC offers primarily on headline ₹/MW pricing. But the lowest price does not necessarily mean the lowest funding requirement.

A contractor asking for higher advances, faster milestone payments or offering limited vendor credit can force the developer to inject more equity during construction. Another EPC contractor may quote slightly higher but provide a payment structure that aligns better with debt disbursement and project cash flow.

That difference can materially change the peak equity requirement and the developer’s return on capital.

EPC bids should therefore be compared on more than price. Compare how much cash each bid requires, and when that cash has to come in.

The cheapest EPC contract on paper may not be the cheapest project to finance.

COD delay is not just an ex*****on problem. It is a financing event.

A project slipping beyond its planned COD does more than push the construction schedule. Interest during construction keeps accumulating, debt repayment assumptions can get disturbed, revenue starts later and the equity invested in the project remains locked for longer.

The impact can become even more serious when the PPA, connectivity or other contractual milestones are linked to commissioning timelines.

This is why schedule risk should not be treated only as an EPC discussion. It should have a financial value attached to it before the EPC contract is awarded.

A slightly cheaper EPC price can lose its advantage very quickly if the project reaches COD late.

For a developer, time to COD is part of project economics.

The cheapest land can be the most expensive site.

Land price is easy to compare. The real cost of a solar site often appears only after the land is identified and the project starts moving.

A longer evacuation route, difficult ROW, land conversion or approval issues, uneven terrain and poor site access can quickly wipe out the saving achieved on the land price. Worse, many of these costs emerge when significant time and money have already been committed and shifting the project to another location becomes difficult.

For a developer, the right question is not simply “What is the cost per acre?”

It is “What will this land cost us by the time the project reaches COD?”

The cheapest parcel is not always the lowest-cost project site.

Your solar project can be profitable on Excel and short of cash in reality.

A healthy project IRR does not automatically mean healthy cash flow.

Financial models often assume that generation, billing, collections and debt servicing move neatly together. In reality, DISCOM payments can be delayed, receivables can build up, while interest, principal repayments, O&M and other operating expenses continue on schedule.

That creates a situation where a fundamentally profitable solar asset can still face a liquidity squeeze.

For developers and lenders, the question should therefore go beyond “What is the project IRR?”

It should also be: “How long can this project comfortably operate if collections are delayed?”

A good solar financial model should stress-test cash flow, not just returns.

A low tariff does not make a solar project competitive. It can make it fragile.

Winning the bid is only the beginning.

A tariff may look attractive on the bidding table, but the real economics are tested during ex*****on. Land costs can change. Evacuation can become more complex than planned. Financing can take longer. EPC costs can move. Even a few months of delay can change the return profile of the project.

The problem with an aggressively low tariff is simple: there is very little room for assumptions to go wrong.

The strongest solar projects are not necessarily those that win at the lowest tariff. They are the ones where the tariff, project cost, financing structure and ex*****on plan still make financial sense when reality turns out slightly different from the Excel model.

Winning the auction matters. Building a bankable and profitable asset matters more.

: Solar capacity is compounding. Storage capacity is still catching its breath.

India's operational battery storage grew 11-fold in a year to reach 8.7 GWh by June 2026, impressive growth, but still roughly 3% of the 321 GWh the sector is projected to need by 2035-36. The gap is already costing real energy: in just the first quarter of FY27, India curtailed 8,133 GWh of solar power, far more than the country's entire battery fleet could even hold today.

Land Aggregators - Punjab & Haryana | 50-100 MW Solar Projects (Land on Lease)

Promax Power Limited is looking for experienced land aggregators to support upcoming solar power projects of 50-100 MW capacity across Punjab and Haryana. Land is required on a lease basis.

We're looking for aggregators with:

Proven track record in land aggregation for solar or industrial projects
Ability to identify contiguous or near-contiguous parcels suitable for utility-scale solar
Landowners willing to lease for the full project term, typically 25-30 years
Understanding of local land conversion (NA) processes and approvals
Experience negotiating directly with landowners/farmers

Location preference: Sites near an existing grid substation, ideally within 1-3 km, in locations where grid connectivity is already available.

Interested aggregators may share their profile, past project experience and preliminary land availability (on lease) at [email protected]

is a national resource. Right now, it behaves like a regional one.

Just seven states hold 85% of India's installed solar capacity. Rajasthan and Gujarat have led for a decade on strong irradiance and early-built evacuation infrastructure; Maharashtra and Karnataka are rising fast on the same logic. That concentration means land, transmission and grid capacity are straining hardest in the same handful of places, while developers elsewhere face a thinner, less proven pipeline.

Diversification isn't just a portfolio strategy. It's how the next 100 GW avoids straining the same seven states even harder.
