It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our respected Chairman and Managing Director, Padmashree Dr. Keki H. Gharda, on September 30, 2024.
Dr. Gharda, born on September 25, 1929, was a trailblazer in the fields of Chemistry and Chemical Technology. In 1964, he established Gharda Chemicals Ltd, which has since become a pillar of India’s chemical industry. His groundbreaking work earned him the title “Father of the Indian Agro-Chemical Industry,” and his contributions have profoundly shaped advancements in agriculture, material science, and pigments.
With more than 200 patents to his name, Dr. Gharda’s revolutionary research in agrochemicals, pigments, polymers, and metallurgy established new benchmarks in the industry. His commitment to developing indigenous technologies and promoting self-reliance positioned India as a leader in chemical innovation. Dr. Gharda’s philosophy of Karmayoga guided his focus on ensuring that his innovations directly benefited society.
Dr. Gharda’s vision will live on through the Gharda Scientific Research Foundation, which he founded to drive scientific exploration for societal good. He will be remembered as a luminary who transformed knowledge into practical solutions for the betterment of humanity.
His guiding principle, "Knowledge converted into products to create wealth for the benefit of society," will continue to inspire all of us as we move forward in his legacy.
