Hon'ble Minister of Finance, Energy & Petrochemicals, Government of Gujarat Shri Kanubhai Mohanlal Desai ji inaugurated the "National Conclave on Rooftop Solar" organized by MNRE on 16th and 17th December, 2023 in association with the Energy and Petrochemicals Department, Govt of Gujarat and GUVNL at Ahmedabad, Gujarat which witnessed amazing participation from 32 states/UTs. The Conclave embraced the pivotal role of Decentralized Renewable Energy especially Rooftop Solar in achieving India's ambitious target of Renewable Energy.

The Indian government will soon roll out fixed timelines for the ex*****on of rooftop solar projects, as announced by Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy, RK Singh, during a two-day review meeting held with state power ministers and secretaries in New Delhi.

"We will put in place time limits. Every discom has to conduct a technical feasibility assessment to determine the possibility of rooftop solar installation. Currently, the time taken for this assessment varies between 10 to 30 days, depending on the discom. I have conveyed that the government will soon set a maximum limit for the time required for the technical feasibility, and we are planning to fix it at 15 days," Singh said.

According to Mercom India, rooftop solar installations in India saw a 3.2 per cent increase, totalling 872 megawatts (MW) during the January-June 2023 period.

During the first half of 2022 (H1 2022), India added 845 MW of rooftop solar capacity, the research firm reported.

The cumulative rooftop solar capacity in India reached 9.6 gigawatts (GW) by the end of June 2023

The capacity additions were distributed among residential consumers (54 per cent), industrial consumers (25 per cent), and commercial consumers (21 per cent). Notably, industrial installations were prominent in sectors like pharmaceuticals, chemicals, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), automobiles, and auto components.

In the heart of Jakarta, the grand Istiqlal Mosque was built with a vision for it to stand for a thousand years.

A major renovation in 2019 installed upwards of 500 solar panels on the mosque’s expansive roof, now a major and clean source of Istiqlal’s electricity. And this Ramadan, the mosque has encouraged an energy waqf — a type of donation in Islam that continues to bear fruit over time — to grow its capacity to make renewable power.

Q: How do you safely store Solar Panels during a house rebuild or installation scheduled at a later stage?

A: It is no brainer that solar panels are sensitive and hence require a little more care. In fact, these are pricey as well, which makes them more worthy of the care. Now, during a house rebuild or the installation is scheduled after few days, you can protect your solar panels from any damage in two ways. Here,

Bubble Wrap: You can wrap each panel with a protective cover of bubble wrap and then keep them inside the storage area.

Stacking: Solar panels with attached frames can be stacked quite high. You can put cardboard and foam between each panel to prevent the frames from getting scratched. Make sure you align the panels so that the pressure is evenly distributed on the frame and no weight falls on the panel.

Store the panels indoors, on their edges, leaned back slightly against a wall, with a sheet of cardboard between each panel to reduce the risk of scratching or otherwise damaging the sun-facing side.

Sometimes, the installers face issue of Solar PCU not charging the battery on Solar as well as Main Line from utility company. This is a tutorial on restarting the Solar PCU by disconnecting it completely from main line, Solar Panel and battery bank. After disconnecting the UPS, reconnect it after 10-15 seconds. The UPS will start charging the battery again.
