*Steel prices hit five-year low; weak trend likely to persist in near term:* BigMint

*Domestic steel prices have slumped to a five-year low, trading in the range of Rs 47,000- 48,000 per tonne impacted by multiple factors,* including surging imports, as per market data from BigMint.

*The last time prices were at such levels was in 2020, when HRC was trading at Rs 46,000/tonne levels and rebar at Rs 45,000/tonne amid the pandemic slowdown.*

🔔 Important Update on Steel Import Compliance

Divyesh N. Shah of NALIN GIRISH Ispat LLP and Raja Shah of Metal Ore recently met Fam President Jitendra Shah to discuss key points from the new Steel & Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024.

📅 Effective from 16th June 2025, this order mandates that both final steel products and their raw materials must comply with BIS standards listed in the QCO.

✅ Example:
If you import CR Stainless Steel under IS 6911, the input (e.g., HR Steel under IS 14650) must also be BIS certified.

📌 Ensure compliance to avoid clearance delays or penalties.
