In a landmark judgment yesterday, the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India while hearing the case SaveLife Foundation (SLF) vs Union of India (WP 235/2012) has made the guidelines to protect Good Samaritans who help injured persons on the road, BINDING on all States and Union Territories of India. This is significant because until now the States were treating these guidelines merely as an advisory, and this order now makes them as good as a law. Non-compliance would be treated as contempt of Supreme Court.
