π§ WHY DOES FOUNTAIN SOLUTION pH MATTER?
In offset printing, fountain solution is much more than water added to the dampening system.
Its pH can directly influence plate performance, ink-water balance, drying and overall print stability.
πΉ Too acidic?
It may affect certain inks, plates and sensitive substrates.
πΉ Too alkaline?
It can disturb the ink-water balance and may create other pressroom problems.
πΉ The right balance?
It helps maintain stable dampening, cleaner printing and consistent results.
But here's the important part:
There is no single fountain solution for every printing application.
Different printing conditions demand different chemistry:
π¨οΈ Conventional sheetfed printing
β‘ UV printing
β¨ Metallic inks
π§ Soft or hard water
π Brush or turbo dampening
π Different plates and substrates
For example, metallic inks may not perform well with strongly acidic fountain solutions, while UV inks have their own specific requirements.
That's why at Falcon Pressroom Solutions, we don't simply formulate chemicals.
We study the pressroom problem first β and then develop the chemistry.
Because better printing begins with understanding the process.
