The SHANTI Bill is one of the most significant pieces of energy legislation India has passed in decades.
By opening civil nuclear power to responsible private participation, it sets the direction for scaling capacity from 8.88 GW today to 100 GW by 2047. It also creates a pathway for small modular reactors, which are relevant for industrial use across sectors such as steel, chemicals, semiconductors and data centres.
What follows is a new phase of engineering.
Nuclear projects demand strong discipline across site selection, reactor systems, civil works, safety, and integration. SMRs add another layer, with modular construction, cluster deployment, and integration with industrial operations.
Tata Consulting Engineers has been part of this journey for over five decades, contributing across feasibility, design, simulation, testing, and economic evaluation in collaboration with DAE, NITI Aayog, and other institutions.
Our MD and CEO Amit Sharma shares TCE’s perspective on what the SHANTI Bill means for India’s energy and industrial future.
