Building an Autonomous Delivery Drone: Pixhawk & ROS 2 Stack! 📦🚁
Phase 1: Hardware & Calibration
Autopilot & Setup: Powered by PX4 Autopilot on a Pixhawk Orange Cube+, calibrated via QGroundControl (compass, gyro, accel, level horizon, ESC power).
Flight Control: Configured motor mapping and RC flight modes (Stabilized, Altitude Hold, Land).
Phase 2: Bio-Inspired Soft Gripper
Design & Material: 3D-printed using flexible TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) based on the Fish Fin Ray Effect.
Payload Handling: Passively conforms around fragile, multi-shape packages for secure pick-and-place without dropping.
Phase 3: Gazebo SITL & ROS 2 Pipeline
Simulation: Zero-crash testing using PX4 SITL in Gazebo Classic.
Middleware: Real-time PX4 to ROS 2 (Humble) telemetry via Micro-XRCE-DDS Agent and MAVROS.
Autonomy: Custom Python mission package for automated waypoint navigation.
Status & What's Next 🎯
Current Status: Hardware fully assembled/calibrated, manual pick-and-place validated, and SITL simulation fully functional.
Next Up: Completing full dynamic autonomous mission planning via MAVROS & ROS 2.
