Amit Agarwal of Hema Connoisseur Collections Becomes the First Indian to Receive Knighthood of the Brewers’ Paddle
Hema Connoisseur Collections (P) Limited, a leading importer of premium beers and wines in India, proudly announces that its Director, Mr. Amit Agarwal, has been awarded the prestigious Knighthood of the Brewers’ Paddle, becoming the first Indian to receive this rare honour. The accolade, presented by the Union of Belgian Brewers, was conferred at a formal ceremony held on 07th September 2024 at the Brewer Guild House in Brussels during the Belgian Beer Weekend.
The Knighthood of the Brewers’ Paddle is one of the world’s oldest guild traditions, dating back to the 14th century, and celebrates individuals who have significantly contributed to the promotion and preservation of Belgian brewing traditions. Mr. Amit was nominated for this recognition by two distinguished Belgian breweries: Brouwerij Huyghe (Delirium) and Brouwerij De Brabandere (Petrus), in recognition of his remarkable efforts to introduce Belgian beers to India, and for being an ambassador for the category.

Mr. Amit began his journey in the world of fine spirits in 2001 when he founded Hema Connoisseur Collections. In 2017, he expanded the company’s portfolio by importing super-premium Belgian beers into India. On receiving this exceptional and prestigious honour, Mr. Amit stated: "I am deeply humbled to receive the Knighthood of the Brewers’ Paddle. This recognition reflects our unwavering commitment at Hema Connoisseur Collections to bring the finest Belgian brews to India. Despite the challenges of introducing a product priced five times higher than local beers in the country, our mission remains focused on educating the hospitality industry, retailers, and consumers on the art of savouring these exquisite brews, much like a glass of Champagne."
