SIO Extends Solidarity to Students at Jantar Mantar, Calls for Structural Reforms Beyond Resignation

A national delegation of SIO, including National President Abdul Hafeez, along with National Secretaries Talha Mannan and Yunus Mulla, visited the Jantar Mantar protest site to extend solidarity to the students and activists on hunger strike over the NEET paper leak and their demand for the education minister's resignation.

During the visit, the delegation submitted a solidarity letter to the students and activists, reaffirming SIO's long-standing position on the crisis in Indian education.

Our concern extends beyond the demand for a resignation, to the structural failures that lie underneath it. We believe any movement for educational justice must address the shrinking space for dissent in campuses, the criminalisation of student voices, the discontinuation of minority scholarships, the centralisation of education through agencies like the NTA, imposition of Saffron pedagogy and policy and the exclusion faced by students on the basis of their identity. These are not separate issues from the paper leak, they are part of the same institutional failure.

SIO stands with the students at Jantar Mantar, reaffirming its role as an active stakeholder and consistent voice for students' rights in the future of Indian education.

Marking two decades of The Companion, this special edition brings together students, scholars, and public intellectuals to reflect on the purpose of scholarship, the moral responsibilities of knowledge, the changing nature of institutions, and the insecurities shaping academic life today.

We mourn the demise of renowned Islamic scholar and prolific author Maulana Salman Hussaini Nadwi.

His lifelong dedication to Islamic scholarship, education, intellectual leadership, and the guidance of the Ummah has left an enduring legacy. Through his writings, teaching, and unwavering commitment to the cause of Islam, he inspired generations of scholars, students, and institutions in India and across the Muslim world.

He will be remembered for his unwavering advocacy of the Palestinian cause and his steadfast commitment to the Islamic movement.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, students, associates, and the wider Muslim Ummah.

We pray that Allah ﷻ accepts his invaluable services, forgives his shortcomings, elevates his ranks in Jannatul Firdaus, and grants patience and strength to all those who mourn his loss.
