We sincerely thank our moderator Dr. Vijendran Venkoparao and distinguished panelists Prof. Meenakshi D'Souza, Prof. Bharadwaj Amrutur, Mr. Senthil Arumugam, and Mr. Kiran Kumar Alla for sharing valuable insights and practical experiences from across the innovation ecosystem.
A major focus of the discussion was the growing role of faculty-led startups in translating research into impactful products and technologies. The panel highlighted how faculty founders bring deep domain expertise, research credibility, access to advanced infrastructure, and the ability to nurture long-term innovation pipelines. These strengths position faculty-led ventures as important drivers of deep-tech entrepreneurship and technology commercialization.
At the same time, the session also explored some of the challenges associated with faculty entrepreneurship, including balancing academic commitments with startup ex*****on, building business and market understanding, scaling teams, and navigating institutional and technology transfer frameworks.
An important aspect discussed was the need for enabling policies such as faculty sabbaticals for entrepreneurship and innovation activities. The panel emphasized that structured sabbatical opportunities can provide faculty members with the time and flexibility required to engage deeply with startups, industry collaborations, product development, and commercialization efforts without disconnecting from academia. Such mechanisms can play a significant role in strengthening the bridge between research and real-world impact.
The discussion reinforced that stronger collaboration between academia, startups, industry, and policymakers is essential for building sustainable innovation ecosystems that can take cutting-edge research from laboratories to scalable market solutions.
We thank all participants, startups, researchers, innovators, and ecosystem partners for contributing to an engaging and thought-provoking session.
