Nestled in the folds of the Eastern Ghats lies the quiet bucolic village of Lamptaput, Orissa. Several decades ago, Laurie Baker raised a modest hospice here, a sanctuary of care and compassion for the local community. We had been entrusted with the privilege of extending this campus through the addition of a nurses’ hostel - conceived in harmony with Baker’s timeless ethos of simplicity and humanity.
Rat-trap bond walls, filler slabs, brick jalis, and oxide floors come together in quiet dialogue, shaping spaces that are humble yet deeply resonant. This campus stands as a gentle tribute, built to serve and shelter those who devote themselves to the service of this overlooked community.

Villa Kuga stands in the heart of Pondicherry’s White Town, a boutique haven that mirrors the elegance of its French colonial neighbors. With a façade of dusty rose and ivory, accented by aqua blue joinery, it carries the romance of a languid seaside villa—where time slows and light lingers.
Rising gracefully within tightly woven plots, the villa aligns with the historic rhythm of the street, its proportions and detailing a quiet homage to the past. Each suite is distinct, carefully designed to welcome natural light despite the closeness of its neighbors.
Every room unfolds like a story. Beneath your feet, handmade Chettinad tiles speak of craft and tradition. Above, lofty ceilings and tall louvred windows invite the breeze and frame the sky. Antique Indo-French furniture completes the interiors, each piece a relic of memory and elegance. And with no two rooms alike, each stay becomes a fresh experience—every visit revealing a new mood, a new narrative, a new charm.
Whether in its well-appointed rooms or its graceful suites, Villa Kuga offers a stay both intimate and expansive—a sanctuary where heritage meets hospitality, and every detail resonates with colonial charm by the sea.

Nithyatha stands as a living tribute to Dr. Govindappa Venkataswamy, visionary founder of the Aravind Eye Care System. Conceived as a circle of continuity, the building embodies both shelter and openness,one half rising in stone, the other unfolding into landscaped seating beneath the sky, shaded by trees.
Sunlight pours gently through the day, and stone quarried from the very site anchors it to its ground. Around its form, water traces a quiet path, cooling the air and echoing the flow of life.
Within and without, built and unbuilt, Nithyatha is a meditation on permanence and renewal—a circle of memory where Dr. V’s spirit of service continues to move, like water, endlessly.

In the heart of Poovanthi’s lush greenery stands a vision of renewal, a proposed rehabilitation center designed to blend seamlessly with trees and landscape.

More than a hospital, it is a sanctuary where architecture and environment work together to restore mind, body, and spirit.

For many, especially those on the arduous path of spinal injury recovery, this is not a brief stop but a long journey. Here, healing unfolds slowly, with patience and resilience, as nature offers strength and solace at every step.
