As ocean conditions shift and fish stocks move farther offshore, the need for informed, data-driven fishing practices is becoming increasingly critical.

Tools like Potential Fishing Zone ( ) platforms are helping to reduce uncertainty, improve efficiency, and support more sustainable use of marine resources. Their value lies not just in improving catch efficiency, but in supporting a more sustainable relationship with marine ecosystems.

At NirDhwani Technology Pvt Ltd., we are working to strengthen these capabilities by building data-driven models and web-based applications that account for dynamic conditions. By translating complex data into practical insights, such tools can enable more informed, timely, and sustainable decisions at sea.

As we move forward, the focus must remain on combining , environmental intelligence, and needs to build resilience across the fisheries sector.

Did you know that to operationalise Marine Spatial Planning ( ), the Government of India, in collaboration with Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, launched pilot projects in Puducherry and Lakshadweep in 2021? It was intended to build local capacity and integrate , , and data to support sustainable decision-making.

Preliminary results have underscored the potential of multi-stakeholder engagement and technology adoption to guide coastal and offshore developments. plays an important role in enabling this transition from sectoral planning to a holistic, data-driven ocean governance paradigm.

At NirDhwani Technology Pvt. Ltd., we are working to bridge this gap through our Toolkit, a unified, simulation-driven platform that integrates diverse real-time ocean data streams to support informed decision-making.

Celebrating the National Maritime Day 2026!

Effective maritime governance today demands the ability to anticipate consequences before they become crises. For a long time, India’s ocean and coastal decision-making has operated through fragmented systems, where shipping, fisheries, conservation, and infrastructure are managed in silos, often leading to unintended environmental and socio-economic impacts.

At NirDhwani Technology Pvt Ltd., we are working to bridge this gap through our Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) Toolkit, a unified, simulation-driven platform that integrates diverse real-time ocean data streams to support informed decision-making.

By enabling planners to model the downstream impacts of actions, whether it is a new shipping corridor, dredging activity, or climate-driven changes, the MSP Toolkit helps shift governance from reactive to proactive.

To understand more about how MSP is the right tool for effective Maritime Governance, please read the paper on ‘Modelling & Simulation Driven Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) for Sustainable Governance in the Indian Ocean Region,’ (Page 119-144) published in ICWA New Delhi special publication. In today’s rapidly evolving maritime landscape, Noise & Vibration (N&V) management is no longer a niche engineering function; it has become central to operational efficiency and sustainability, and safety at sea. At NirDhwani Technology Pvt Ltd., we recognise the growing importance of N&V studies across marine platforms, spanning multiple critical applications:

🔹Crew Comfort & Habitability
🔹Underwater Noise Management
🔹Condition-Based Preventive Maintenance (CBPM)

Modern N&V analysis goes beyond traditional mechanical assessments. With advancements in computational modelling, sensor technologies, and Transfer Path Analysis (TPA), we can now better understand how noise propagates through airborne, structure-borne, duct-borne, and fluid-borne paths. At the same time, evolving global frameworks by organisations such as the International Maritime Organization - IMO and the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) continue to shape how the industry approaches noise mitigation and compliance. However, the challenge remains the lack of open-access ship data and the need for automated, AI-driven diagnostic systems.

💡 The way forward lies in integrating data analytics, automation, and domain expertise to build quieter, safer, and more sustainable marine ecosystems.

At NDT, we are committed to driving innovation in N&V management and bridging research with real-world underwater applications.

“The advancements in acoustic technology have transformed our comprehension of ocean basins. Sonar systems, initially developed during World War I for submarine direction, now play a pivotal role in oceanic studies. These systems reveal crucial information about the ocean floor’s topography by transmitting sound waves into the water and capturing returning echoes,” writes Romit Kaware, Research Fellow at the Maritime Research Center.

This UDA Digest Issue Brief unravels various acoustic challenges in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). It highlights that the IOR is a bustling hub for various human activities, such as fishing, shipping, and offshore drilling, and that these activities generate noise from engines, propellers, and seismic surveys. This human-made noise can disrupt necessary sonar signals and mix with other underwater sounds.
