The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) would like to congratulate M/s Mercedes-Benz India Pvt. Ltd for obtaining the approval of their Wind Tunnel Facility for determination of the road load of M1 category vehicles.

Dr. Reji Mathai, Director, ARAI handed over the Confirmation Certificate to Shri. Shrikant Deshmukh General Manager, Mercedes Benz India. Shri. Abdul Jabbar Akbar Badusha, Senior Deputy Director, ARAI, Dr. Dr Prasanna Bhat, Senior Deputy Director, ARAI and other senior officials from both the organisations were present during the occasion.

This certification recognizes Mercedes-Benz India to use the ‘Wind Tunnel Method’ for ‘Vehicle Road Load Determination’, utilising an advanced combination of Wind Tunnel and Flat Belt Dynamometer facilities in accordance with AIS‑175 standard. This approach ensures a good correlation of lab vs test-track testing of the vehicle.

AIS:175 technical standard deals with WLTP test procedure for carrying out vehicle exhaust emissions, as notified by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India vide GSR 112( E ) dated 4th February 2026. This comes into effect from 1st April 2027. WLTP procedure gives an option for determination of vehicle road load through wind tunnel and dynamometer facilities in combination.

This certification offered to Mercedes-Benz India, marks a first-of-its-kind facility approval under CMVR. It’s a milestone which sets a new benchmark in the process of advanced vehicle testing and validation.

ARAI Squad had an eventful morning with this wellness-driven, environmentally conscious initiative that brought us closer to eco-conscious living. Runners enjoyed a scenic route through some of Pune’s most iconic spots. Our finishers also received a tree sapling alongside a medal.

Building a Cohesive Research Ecosystem for Viksit Bharat 2047!

NITI Aayog and ARAI jointly convened a consultative meeting on promoting University-Industry-Government (UIG) collaboration in India's automotive sector on 4th June 2026 at ARAI, Pune campus.

The roundtable deliberated on ideating a cohesive research ecosystem by uniting ecosystem partners in the automotive domain for 2047.
Dr. Reji Mathai, Director, ARAI, and Prof. Vivek Singh, Senior Adviser, NITI Aayog, framed the discussion around two priorities: accelerating indigenous research and innovation, and reducing structural bottlenecks through targeted policy support. Prof. Singh underscored the urgency of self-reliance as India's automotive industry continues its rapid expansion.

Participants from industry, academia, and government deliberated on the future of Circularity and Sustainable Manufacturing, Intelligent and Safe Mobility, Alternate Fuels and Energy Transition, Vehicle Electrification, Lean Manufacturing and Product Scaling. Industry leaders highlighted the need for scalable production frameworks, while academic voices called for curriculum reform and skill development aligned with fast-evolving technologies.

The roundtable concluded with a clear consensus: India needs shared national platforms that bridge the gap between industry and academia, improve visibility of homegrown innovations, and align research priorities at scale.

A unified research ecosystem that strengthens India's knowledge base and drives collective growth was identified as the cornerstone of progress toward , , and .

This year, World Environment Day was special for us as we celebrate our Diamond Jubilee. ✨🍃

The day was marked by a series of green initiatives for our employees. We strengthened our commitment to the environment with a tree plantation drive at our facilities in Chakan, Takwe and Kothrud. On top of this, we also distributed saplings for home gardening at our Corporate office in Kothrud.🌳🌳 An engaging online quiz on ecology and sustainability renewed our knowledge on various aspects of environmental laws and climate change. A lecture on ‘Sustainable Waste Management: ReThink – ReUse – ReAct’ from SWaCH inspired us to cultivate responsible behaviour for a better future that honours nature and climate. 🧹

Additionally, our Director, Dr. Reji Mathai was honoured to be present as an Esteemed Speaker at the inaugural session of SIAM’s 6th International Conference on World Environment Day. He addressed the conference with his insights on sustainable practices in the auto industry.

He said, “Transitions are never easy, but what we have achieved is admired worldwide. India has been at the forefront of embracing all regulations to improve ambient air quality. As we move ahead with low-carbon fuels, electrification and alternate technologies, collaborative research and partnerships will be critical to generating the data needed for informed policymaking. The industry must come forward and work together to develop future-ready solutions and provide a clear roadmap for implementation. We need data to take the right decisions. Let us come together, look ahead and drive for the future.”
