Swipe through the making of our bamboo-soop mementos—from stacks of unfinished pieces to 90+10 individually painted creations.

Because bamboo is an uneven, woven surface, every line had to respond to the material beneath it. The small variations are not defects; they are the character of something genuinely handmade.

Each finished composition brings together village life, nature and clean-energy motifs to create a memento that belongs to both Maharashtra’s heritage and its sustainable future.

NRDC India was looking for a framed Warli artwork. We proposed a more sustainable and locally meaningful alternative: using a traditional handwoven bamboo soop as the canvas.

The soop represents Maharashtra’s agricultural heritage, while Warli art brings alive village life, community and harmony with nature. We gave the traditional artwork a progressive expression by adding wind turbines and solar panels—reflecting NRDC India’s contribution to renewable energy.

The result was a collection of 100 customised mementos: 90 delegate pieces and 10 larger ceremonial pieces, accompanied by handwritten notes on recycled handmade paper.

Thank you, NRDC India, for trusting .bacs with this idea and giving us the opportunity to connect Maharashtra’s living heritage with India’s clean-energy future.
