In Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state, nearly 31% of air pollution is linked to biomass based cooking practices, highlighting the importance of expanding access to cleaner energy solutions for rural households.
This World Environment Day, Sistema.bio participated in the launch of UP Clean Air Management Project, India’s first state-level, airshed-based Clean Air Plan, spearheaded by the Uttar Pradesh Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in partnership with the World Bank and IIASA.
At the event, we showcased our modern biogas solutions to the state's top leadership, including Hon’ble Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and global dignitaries, as a direct and proven answer to the very crisis UPCAMP was built to solve. Our India Country Director, Piyush Sohani, joined experts on a panel highlighting how scaling biogas mitigates household emissions and provides a renewable, decentralised energy source for rural India.
We commend the Government of Uttar Pradesh for taking this important step towards cleaner air and long-term climate action. For an agrarian state like UP, biogas can create impact far beyond the kitchen, supporting sustainable farming, waste management, and greater energy independence for farmers.
When climate action is rooted in practical, scalable solutions, it creates lasting impact for both people and the planet.
