Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) has achieved another critical milestone at the 450 MW Shongtong Karchham Hydroelectric Project. In a precise engineering operation within the underground machine hall cavern, the generator stator for Unit-2 was successfully lowered into its permanent position. This flagship run-of-the-river asset on the Satluj River features three 150 MW vertical Francis turbines. Notably, the infrastructure supports a 15% continuous overload capacity, enabling peak-flow generation of up to 172.5 MW per unit. Following the successful placement of the Unit-2 stator, technical teams are transitioning to rotor core assembly and shaft alignment to ensure timely wet commissioning.

Sh. Abid Hussain Sadiq, Managing Director, HPPCL has congratulated entire team of project engineers and employees for this achievement.

In a momentous achievement for the clean energy sector of Himachal Pradesh, the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) has successfully accomplished a major milestone at the 450 MW Shongtong Karchham Hydroelectric Project (3x150 MW). Today, the massive 375 MT generator rotor of Unit-1 was successfully lowered into the generator stator cavity in the underground machine hall cavern, marking a crucial step towards the commissioning of the project.

The Shongtong Karchham HEP is a flagship run-of-the-river development on the Satluj River, located in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. The project is designed to generate 450 MW of clean power through three vertical Francis turbine-generating units of 150 MW capacity each, with an outstanding 15% continuous overload capacity (allowing each unit to scale up to 172.5 MW / 191.67 MVA during peak flows).

With the Unit-1 rotor successfully in place, the project team will now focus on the alignment of the turbine-generator shaft, final stator-rotor air gap adjustments, and the integration of associated auxiliaries, paving the way for wet commissioning and subsequent synchronization of the first unit.
