oing outstanding research and education due to its strong R&D program, up-to-date educational curricula, modern laboratory infrastructure, highly qualified faculty, IPR & patents, and placements of graduates. The Department is actively involved in research by having the distinction of running externally funded R & D projects worth Rs. 25 crores from various Govt. of India agencies such as the Department of Biotechnology, Department of Science & Technology, DRDO, Ministry of Environment and Forest, ICMR, and industries. The Department has been recognized as a Center of Excellence for research in biosynthetic pathway discovery and genetic improvement of indigenous medicinal herbs by the DBT, Govt. The Department is recognized as the technical agency to implement the GOBARDHAN project by the Govt. of Himanchal Pradesh and Jharkhand (2018). Following are our major research thrusts:

Prof. Hemant Sood from the Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT) delivered an insightful expert lecture on "Careers in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics to the students of PM Shri Govt Girls Model Senior Sec School, Sunder Nagar on Sep.,19 2025. There were 230 students attended this lecture via online mode along with faculties. The session offered deep insights into the different career avenues to all the students of medical and non medical stream. Prof. Hemant deeply acknowledged JUIT administration and the support of Principal of the school, faculty Mr Surinder ji and their technical staff for the smooth conduct of the session.

One Day workshop on “Advances in Biotechnology and Chemistry innovations” was organized by Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Jaypee University of Information Technology, Waknaghat on 18th September 2025. 45 participants from Rajiv Gandhi Govt. Degree College Chaura Maidan Shimla participated in the workshop.
The event was inaugurated by Prof. Jata Shankar, HOD of the Department and this event was coordinated by Prof. Poonam Sharma, Prof. Hemant Sood and Dr. Ashok Kumar. This workshop is also training activity under MOU signed between Jaypee University of Information Technology, Waknaghat and Rajiv Gandhi Govt. Degree College Chaura Maidan Shimla.

The Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics (BT/BI) is delighted to share that one of the research projects proposed by Prof. Tiratha Raj Singh as Principal Investigator (PI) and Dr. Udayabanu as Co-PI, has been sanctioned by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India. 🎉 The recommended budget is INR 38.97 lacs and duration for the project is three years.

🌟 Faculty Participation in One-Day Event at St. Edward School, Shimla 🌟

On 12th September 2025, faculty members from JUIT enthusiastically participated in a one-day event at St. Edward School, Shimla – one of the premier institutions of Himachal Pradesh.
This event provided a wonderful platform for our University to showcase academic strengths and innovations to young learners.

Dr. Raj Kumar of Dept. BTBI conducted an engaging session with Science students followed by a rigourous discussion and career counselling.
