The Aravallis are not just a geological formation - they are an important part of Rajasthanโs natural heritage, ecology and economy.๐คฉ
But protecting the Aravallis and supporting the livelihoods that depend on mineral resources do not have to be opposing goals.
In his address, Dr. Hitanshu Kaushal, H K & Associates, highlighted the need to look at the Aravalli mining debate through both an environmental and human lens.
According to the remarks, mining in the Aravalli region covers only a small portion of the overall area, while supporting millions of direct and indirect livelihoods and contributing significantly to Rajasthanโs revenue.
The discussion also pointed to examples from Canada, Germany and Australia, where mining has continued alongside environmental safeguards through scientific mining practices, reclamation, green-zone development and the separation of mining and eco-sensitive areas.
The message is clear: a blanket ban is not the only solution.
The focus should be on scientific assessment, responsible mining, environmental safeguards and planned development - ensuring that the Aravallis remain protected while livelihoods, industries and mineral-dependent sectors continue to contribute to the stateโs growth.
The objective should be to protect the Aravallis while also protecting the people whose livelihoods depend on them.
Conservation and development can move forward together - when the approach is responsible, scientific and well-regulated.๐
