In Memoriam – Prof. Madhav Gadgil
Uravu Eco Links expresses its deep condolences on the passing of Madhav Gadgil, an eminent ecologist and one of India’s most influential environmental thinkers.
Prof. Gadgil’s lifelong commitment to ecological integrity, scientific rigour, and democratic environmental governance has left an enduring imprint on India’s environmental discourse. His work consistently emphasised the need to balance development with ecological limits, local knowledge, and community participation.
As the chairperson of the Western Ghats Ecology Expert Panel, he articulated a science-based, people-centred approach to conservation that continues to influence policy debates and grassroots movements alike.
